Uganda is a landlocked country located in East-Central, Africa. The country lies within the Nile basin. A large portion of Lake Victoria, which is one of the world’s biggest lakes, lies in the southern part of Uganda. Uganda is home to 10 national parks, which are among the 60 protected areas.

Uganda Demographics

The sex ratio of Uganda is 0.97, which means that it is skewed in favor of females. The share of females in the population is 50.71%, while the share of males is 49.29%. The life expectancy at birth for both genders is 64.38 years.

The largest age group in Uganda is 0-14 years making up 46% of the population. The second-largest age group is 25-54 years making up 28.1% of the population. Just 2% of the population comprises people aged 65 and above.

Uganda is mainly a rural country, with just 25.2% of the population residing in urban areas.

Uganda Religion and Politics 

Roman Catholics form the major religious group in Uganda, making up 39.3% of the population. Anglicans and Pentecostals make up 32% and 11.1%, respectively. The share of Muslims in the population is 13.7%.

Uganda gained independence from British rule in 1962. The presidential form of governance is followed by Uganda, with the president being both the head of state and government. There are multiple political parties in Uganda.

Uganda Economy

The economy of Uganda witnessed rapid growth in the 1990s and early 2000s. From 1990 to 2015, the GDP grew at a rate of 6.7% annually, while GDP per capita grew at a rate of 3.3% annually during the same period. The share of agriculture in GDP reduced from 56% in 1990 to 24% in 2015.
