The majority of the population, about 91.1%, are adherents to Christianity. 6% of the population remain religiously unaffiliated, 2% others, 0.5% folk or traditional religions, 0.3% Hinduism, and 0.1% Islam.

The political framework of Saint Lucia enjoys parliamentary democracy but under a constitutional monarchy. Queen Elizabeth II is the head of state, and the prime minister is the leader of the majority party of the house. The cabinet is responsible for the affairs of the state.

Saint Lucia Economy

65% of the country’s GDP can be accounted to the tourism industry, which has become the island’s main source of income and jobs. Economic growth is extremely slow since the global financial crisis in 2008 due to the decrease in tourism. To address high public wages and lack of productivity, the government introduced the National Competitiveness and Productivity Council in 2013 to oversee the situation.
