Reunion Demographics
Reunion has a good amount of ethnic diversification of groups like African, Indian, Malagasy, Chinese, and European descents. The immigrants from Africa, Asia, and Europe have been in Reunion for the past 300 years. The early marriage in these groups has contributed to population growth. Today, the country comprises of people with mixed race. The estimation of white people in terms of population is 25% while the population growth among the Indians is 25%. Reunion Religion & Politics
Christianity is the majority in Reunion, where most of them are Roman Catholics. According to Religious Intelligence, Christians are 86.9% of the population, while Hindus are 6.7% and Muslims are 3.2%. Reunion also includes Chinese folk religion and Buddhism. In the political front, the French law and its constitution govern the Department of Reunion. 14th July is a national holiday, which is considered as Bastille Day in the Reunion. The country has a presidential rule. The elections held in the country include the French presidential vote. As Reunion is a region in France, it has a multi-party system where no one can exercise their powers independently. All the parties work jointly to form a coalition government.
Reunion Economy
Agriculture is the most traditional trend in the Reunion economy. Over a century, sugarcane has been the main crop, and it accounts for 85% of the exports. According to the accounts, there is a large gap between the rich & the poor, owing to social tensions. The unemployment rate is high, where over 40% are of the labor force.
