The political framework of Nauru is a republic that functions as a parliamentary system of government. The president serves as the head for both the state and the government but requires the confidence of the parliament to hold the presidential office. The members of the parliament elect the president.
Nauru Economy
The main source of revenue for this island is the export of phosphates. Most of the necessities of the people are almost imported from Australia. The long-term problems faced by the country are the rehabilitation of mined land and a source of replacement for the income obtained from phosphate mining. Since the establishment of the Australian Regional Processing Center in 2012 for asylum seekers, the growth of the economy has seen a good increase.
