Macedonia Population: 2,083,404

Macedonia is a small country covering an area of 25,713 km² in the Balkan Peninsula of southeast Europe. It is a landlocked country, sharing its borders with Albania, Bulgaria, Greece, Kosovo, and Serbia. This country is one of the successor states of Yugoslavia. The official languages are Macedonian and Albanian.

Macedonia Religion & Politics

A majority of 59.3 % of the population are adherents of Christianity. Islam is followed by 39.3 %, and about 1.4 % remain religiously unaffiliated.

The political framework is a parliamentary representative democratic republic. The head of government and a multi-party system is the prime minister. The government exercises executive power alone, whereas the legislative power is given to both the government and parliament.

Macedonia Economy

To improve the economy, low tax rates and free economic zones are provided to attract foreign investment, which is still low in comparison to the rest of Europe. Unemployment is estimated to be around 23%. Currently, Macedonia is working to build a country-wide natural gas pipeline and distribution network. To maintain the macroeconomic stability and inflation to a minimum, the country upholds prudent monetary policy.
