Jamaica Demographics
Most of the population of Jamaica are descendants from Africa. The most common ethnic groups were the Akan and Igbo. They make 76.3 percent of the Jamaican population. The multiracial group is the subsequent largest group. Among these are East Indian, Afro-European, Caucasian, Afro-East Indian, Chinese and other. 26 years is the current median age of Jamaica.
Jamaica Religion & Politics
There are varied religions in Jamaica. 64.8 percent are Roman Catholics, 1.1 percent Rastafarian, 1.9 percent Jehovah’s witness, 6.5 percent are other, and 21.3 percent follow no religion among the Jamaican population. Politically, Elizabeth II is its queen and falls under the Commonwealth realm.
Jamaica Economy
The Jamaican economy is primarily and largely based on tourism. They are highly dependent on the services sector, such as alumina, mined bauxite, and a blend of remittances along with tourism. Their economy has consistently and gradually grown. However, inflation in the public sector, crime, corruption, and debt are hindering economic growth. Agriculture also is a crucial part of its economy though it is not as prominent as it was in the past. Sugar is the most exported item. Bananas, Coffee, and Cocoa, are also exported in good numbers.
