Gambia religion and politics

Most of the people in Gambia practice Islam. The large groups of Muslim populations follow Sunni laws and traditions. Some people follow Ahmadiyya. The Christian community is also present in small members who follow the denominations such as Roman Catholicism, Baptists, Anglicans, Methodists, Seventh-day Adventists, Jehovah’s witnesses, etc. There are also indigenous beliefs followed by the serer religion.

The country got independence from the UK in the year 1965. The country is a multi-party liberal democracy. According to the constitution, the president will head the state and the government. The president has to appoint the prime minister and also the cabinet ministers.

Gambia economy

Gambia’s economy is described as the liberal market-based economy. There is agriculture and also groundnuts which are used for export. Agriculture takes part the 30% of the gross domestic product. It contains 70% of the labour force. There are also fishing, forestry, crops and livestock that add to the gross domestic product. There are manufacturing of soft drinks, clothing and soap. There are twelve commercial banks in the Gambia. Many branches of banks have plans to open even more.
