Ethiopia Population History

Ethiopia has a high poverty level, and that leads to the deterioration of the health of most of its inhabitants. Malaria, tuberculosis, AIDS, and other communicable diseases are the most common causes of death of Ethiopian inhabitants. Ethiopia Demographics

People of various ethnicities have their homes in the country of Ethiopia. Among many other ethnicities, the Oromo and the Amhara, hold the major population of the country, having a population percentage of 34.4% and 27% respectively around the country. Other ethnic groups include the Sidama (4%), Somali (6.2%), Welayta (2.3%), and many others. Ethiopia has also provided shelter to numerous refugees in government-designated refugee camps.

Ethiopia Religion and Politics

In the early 4th century BC, the country adopted Christianity as their religion and became of the first Christian countries. The percentage of Christians in Ethiopia is around 63%, with 44% belonging to the Ethiopian Orthodox Church. The country also holds close ties with the major three Abrahamic religions. Ethiopia has the first Hijra in Islamic history and the oldest Muslim settlement on the continent, having 34% of its total population.

Ethiopia is mainly an agricultural-based economy and is weak in its technological aspects. The country has one of the lowest income rates per capita. However, in recent improvements in its approach, the country has shown a decrease in the starvation level. And, has shown an increase in 7% in 2014 in its GDP. The country’s new approach has also led to an improvement in its agricultural practices, thus helping in stabilizing the economy.
