World Development and growth of population

The two factors that impact the growth rate are:

  • Fertility rate- It is a measure that impacts greatly on the changes in the population. It determines the world population strongly.
  • Development rate- With a nation getting richer, there is a fall in fertility rates.

Blending both these aspects, it can be determined that with the development of the nation, the growth rate in population declines.

How is the world population clock helpful in assessing world population?

World population clock or counter considers the U.S. Census Bureau and UN data of the world population. Every 2 years, the data is updated, calculated, and published by the UN and are a standard set of figures. Data on the human population all through the world is estimated on sub-national and national census information, information on migrants, births, and deaths. Registration and census data are assessed for all nations and adjusted for any backlogs.

U.S. Census Bureau develops projections and estimates depending on the data available on a survey, census, and managerial information on mortality, fertility, migration, and population for each nation present all through the globe.

For the majority of nations, data adjustment is required to correct for omissions, errors, and inaccuracies within the information. As the data is usually 2 years old, the present world population number can also be regarded as a previous data projection. With the updates, the figure is also updated.

World population clock is considered the most precise as the estimates are latest released by the UN and display the same figures no matter which part of the world you see from and irrespective of the time set on your desktop. This has live counters that follow UN data clocks and not the desktop clock.

World Population Growth rate

The world population is assessed to be growing at a rate of 1.05 percent each year. The yearly growth rate has halved post-1960s and is estimated to fall in later years. The growth rate shall slow down in the 21st century but will grow slow-paced.

  • The growth rate of world population by country and region.
  • The 1960s saw a peak in the world population.

The growth rate of the population is dependent on 2 metrics:

  • Natural growth in population- This is a difference in the population that is determined by deaths and births solely. Migration is not included.
  • The growth rate in population-This is the difference of population determined with migration, deaths, and births.

It is seen that some nations have somewhat negative natural growth of population as the number of births is lesser than the number of deaths. It is noticed that the Growth rate in the population is slowing down gradually all through the world. But, there are substantial variations across various regions and nations.

Future growth of the world population

It is estimated that the global population will see an end to the growth rate of the 2 centuries. This is estimated based on the demographic transitions and worldwide fertility rate. There is an end in the former almost and the rate has halved of the latter. The population has varied drastically only temporarily. But with current statistics, the rapid growth of the population shall end.

Current world population growth has slowed down to 1 percent each year, which was 2.1 percent yearly in 1968. The demographic transition on a large scale experiences a closure today. With a decline in population growth that includes migration, it is estimated that it will eventually fall to 0.1 percent. This is as per UN data. Beyond 2100, the world population will solely depend on the rate of fertility. With the rise in development, the fertility rate has also seen a decline, as mentioned previously. If it will see a rise, is only to be seen. In the 20th century, the worldwide population has increased to 4 times but in the future, it may not double anymore. If UN data projections are precise, then the global population will attain an extraordinary size, which is over 10 times in 250 years.

A new balance shall be created. The equilibrium that shall be created will be different from what has been earlier when the mortality rate was high. The future holds lower fertility rates and this will lead to smaller or minor population variations unlike before when population variation was huge.

Not to mention, the day, the number of deaths will equal to the number of births, the world population growth will cease.

In the coming decades, the data on population growth demonstrates that annual birth number is about 140 million each year. This shall also decline gradually in the remaining half of the century. One may see yearly death numbers shall rise and may reach the number of births, in the coming decades or by the century end. With lower fertility rates, the number of births may also decline and deaths number may increase. This will highly impact the world population rate of growth to decline. At this point, one can say that the world population will cease to rise in the coming future.
